Bridgeport is known for being the residence of PT Barnum, a non-indigenous population of monk parakeets, and birthplace of the Frisbee and Subway Sandwich franchise. Natural springs at Golden Hills, fishing, and farming initially attracted people to the area. |
Whaling emerged. Railroads were built making Bridgeport a major junction for western Connecticut and supporting manufacture of iron, firearms, metallic cartridges, horse harnesses, saddles, locks, blinds, sewing machines, corsets, and automobiles. Economic diversification is spreading towards healthcare, financial, and educational services.
