Grand Rapids in on the Grand River 30 miles east of Lake Michigan. It began as a trading post dealing mostly in furs. |
A federal survey office was established. A hydro-electric generator was built. Gypsum was mined. Fluoride was added to city water. Bridges were built. And logs milling flourished which spawned furniture manufacturing. Grand Rapids has since been selected for Ford's City of Tomorrow Challenge. If you're seeking fun things to do after training, the city is known for the Frederik Meijer Gardens, Gerald Ford Museum.
