About Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) Training

Who is Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) Training for?

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis training is for anybody interested in launching a new undertaking more successfully. New undertakings can be services, products, or processes. And more successfully means with less risk, injury to customers or employees, warranty cost, rework cost, and scrap cost. In our course, Las Vegas students learn:

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) Training Course Overview:

FMEA training describes Failure Mode and Effects Analysis so Las Vegas students can lessen risk while designing any new system, product, or process. FMEA as a Design Tool. Failure Mode and Effects Analysis was born in Aerospace and evolved in Automotive; industries where we can't afford to make mistakes because they're safety-critical and measured in the cost of lives lost. What's useful for designing a zero-failure Space Shuttle is probably useful everywhere. Many industrial leaders agree so FMEA has found applications not only in product design but system design and process design as well. For example, Manufacturing Engineers in Automotive Powertrain divisions may have $50M budgets to launch new machining lines. That's a lot of money; as much as many smaller companies earn in a year. Mistakes can't be made. The expectation is that these new, super-complex lines launch flawlessly. How can that be done? FMEA.

FMEA as a Root Cause Analysis Tool. In Six Sigma's DMAIC Analyze Phase, suppose you're working on a really tough problem with a low defect rate or a one-off that was destroyed in the process of its failure. How can you find the root cause? Many folks give up at this point claiming, "we can't do anything about a one-off failure". Not true. If that were true, FAA investigators wouldn't have jobs. If actual failure modes no longer exist, we can look at potential causes. FMEA allow us to do that.
