About Human Error Prevention Training

Who is Human Error Prevention Training for?

Human Error Prevention is ideal for those responsible for process improvement whether related to safety, quality, or productivity especially if your team is suffering from recurring issues. Chicago students are often executives, managers, supervisors, and quality assurance personnel who want to decrease overall environmental, occupational safety, and quality defects in their operations. In our course, Chicago students learn:

Human Error Prevention Training Course Overview:

Chicago students improve their knowledge of the psychology and physiology contributing to human error. Human Error is a root or proximate cause in 80% of operational incidents and accidents as well as quality defects and escapes. Human operators have an influence over every layer of protection barriers within a system. Organizational and regulatory influences, unsafe supervision, preconditions for unsafe acts, and unsafe acts of operators can line up in a way to defeat all safeguards and allow accidents or quality defects to occur. Human Error Prevention provides tools to address this including insights into why human errors occur through mistakes, slips, lapses, and violations, human performance and limitations, skills, rules, and knowledge-based behavior, tools to make systems and operations more error resistant and error tolerant (checklists, memory aids, hierarchical task analyses, guideword analyses, cognitive workloads, reward utility, etc.), and how to integrate human error prevention strategies into your operations. The Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) is thoroughly discussed as a mishap prevention aid.

Chicago

Windy City - City in a Garden

Excellent choice! Railways, waterways, and airline routes emanate from Chicago like rays of the sun. Since its beginning, the area connected local watersheds with navigable waterways of the Mississippi River and Great Lakes. The the Illinois and Michigan Canal opened. Galena and Chicago Union Railroad was built. Steel skyscrapers were erected. Parks were established. Chicago became the nation's railroad center, and by 1910 over 20 railroads operated passenger service out of 6 different downtown terminals. WWII spurred manufacturing especially steel production. Universities and an airport were built. Now, Chicago has the largest number of highways and greatest amount of railroad freight in the US, and one of the busiest airports in the world. By population, Chicago is 3rd largest in the US and #1 in Illinois. So, if you get bored in Chicago, then the problem is on your end. Options include Navy Pier, Shedd Aquarium, an Architecture River Cruise, Millennium Park, Cloud Gate, museums, some of the most unique (and expensive) shopping in the world, and more!

Energy

I had the pleasure of working with our Master Black Belt at our energy tech firm. There, he created an internal mentorship and training program to teach lean/six sigma concepts. The training was made available to employees spread both horizontally and vertically throughout the organization. Executives, managers, assemblers and receptionists alike were soon finding and eliminating waste within their workday. This divide-and-conquer philosophy in executing the continuous improvement program was not only an incredibly efficient way to find and implement cost savings, but also created a culture of empowerment within our organization. Our MBB encouraged all of his students to use these techniques to add value to the organization, in-turn making them more valuable employees.
